A lesson learned on over eating

Today was a day of learning. Thank goodness I was paying attention to catch the lessons. The first thing I learned was that it’s best if I stick to the script. When it comes to lunch, I sometimes get caught up eating my favorite Mexican meal thinking ‘it’s not all that bad’..once a week wouldn’t be a big deal but this is one of those ‘foods’ I need to stay away from completely. I can eat it everyday and it would be so delicious every time. You may have read about my cracker obsession a few weeks ago. Yah, well today I come to terms that I MUST stay away from Poquito Mas. I can’t control myself. So I declare from today forward that I no longer choose to eat warm, comforting tostada’s anymore. ‘You tostada’s DON’T love me! In fact, you come and go leaving your marks on my midsection.’ Sticking to the script would be eating what I brought to work for lunch. Oh yeah, there’s more. I learned that how to tell when you’ve eaten too much for lunch. When it’s 4 hours later, your still full and your whole lunch is sitting like a huge ball in your throat as you attempt to run a 5k. That was fun. But, you live & learn right?
Here’s how I felt today. This is never a good look, so here’s hoping I didn’t look how I felt… hahahah.
It’s okay to make mistakes, have misteps or plain screw up royally just as long as you can admit & acknowledge the issue and take away lessons from it. That is how we grow.
Hopefully not literally!!!
Eat Green after a workout

In addition to hydrating after a ginormous hike x2 at Runyon Canyon, I stopped by Whole Foods (aka Whole Paycheck) and picked up some lunch.. being a vegetarian, I try to eat as many raw foods as possible (versus dishes with umpteen ingredients and calories) Food directly from the earth can be so yummy. I will admit the Mediterranean salad did have a bit too much cheese and dressing. When buying salad already made from a deli, pick it from the top, not the bottom where a lot of dressing settles!
What have you done for your health lately?
Notice the small plates I eat from. Call it mind games, but my small plates look darn fulfilling don’t they. Fill up a small plate instead of a big dinner plate and notice how satisfied you will be!
Are you prepared?

The best way to prevent yourself from overeating snacks or eating unhealthy treats on the go is to be prepared. Have you ever looked at the serving size on a nutritional label? Most packages contain more than one serving. Did you know that? Even calorie beverages like juices, sports drinks, etc. So before you tear into your favorite (enter snack or beverage here) make sure you know the serving size – and stick to only one at a time. Eat small, frequent meals and snacks and watch the weight come off and your energy soar! By keeping your metabolism on an even keel you will also ward off cravings which can lead to binging. My motto has always been, indulge in your favorite things, but in very small doses! I went to the grocery store and bought some raw nuts, dried fruit and granola for the week. I ALWAYS keep snacks in my purse – that way I am not tempted to pull into a drive thru for a quick bite if I become hungry while on the go. I also keep water in a reusable bottle in my purse.

When I got home I pulled out my Ziploc bags and divided all my snacks into serving size portions and placed them into bags. Then gathered all into one quart or gallon size bag to contain the snacks in one place. This is will prevent me from eating more than one serving size in a sitting and saves time in the morning when preparing my food to go with me to work.

Easter candy, yummm….

Happy Easter! While chatting with a friend today, I wished him a Happy Easter. He told me that he “can’t” enjoy any of the holiday sweets because he is on a ‘diet’ – WHAT? I wished him well with his deprivation diet and told him I’d be interested to know how long he can sustain that. He then told me he missed me…because, he knows my point is valid!!!
Just furthers my viewpoint…. life is about living healthfully & abundantly! The old adage hold true, life is too short…to forgo those pleasures you enjoy! Have a beer, a piece of chocolate, chips, whatever!!!! While your having your pleasures, enjoy every moment, the feel in your mouth, texture, taste, use all your senses, then BE DONE! Think about it, how much of the food we actually eat is THAT good that you need to ‘polish it off’ or get a second helping? In my world (the world of eating out) it’s not a lot! If we just slow down to enjoy the experience, we will be fulfilled!
So I dare you – put the ‘diet’ word to the grave and live life, consciously!
